An arrest has been made in the Thursday shooting of legendary former football coach John Beam on the campus of Laney College in Oakland, California, according to the Oakland Police Department.
Additional details about the arrest were not immediately released.
Beam, who appears on Netflix’s “Last Chance U,” is a Bay Area football legend and had coached the sport for more than 40 years before becoming solely the school’s athletic director last year. He remains in hospital and his condition is unclear.

Beam was at Laney Fieldhouse when he was shot shortly before noon Thursday, authorities said. The alleged shooter fled the scene.
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said in a statement Thursday: “Coach Beam is a giant in Oakland: a mentor, an educator and a lifeline to thousands of young people.”
“We’re praying for him,” Lee said.
The mayor said Friday after the arrest: “I am grateful to the Oakland Police Department and our dedicated law enforcement partners for their quick work.”
